Thank You for Supporting Oak Lane Day. Here's What's Next!

To everyone who signed the petition in support of the street closure for Oak Lane Day: THANK YOU! Your support is appreciated. It is inspiring to see neighbors want to celebrate our community together.
Where Things Stand
While the petition to host Oak Lane Day in Ellwood School yard and the surrounding street was supported by residents of those blocks, OLCAA (Oak Lane Community Action Association) has voted to move forward with a smaller celebration on Lawnton Avenue, from 6600 to 6800. We believe it’s still happening and we will keep you updated.
As someone who was helping to plan this event alongside OLCAA, I want to acknowledge something important: East Oak Lane is home to over 10,000 people, yet OLCAA’s current active membership is under 75 people. That means a small group of committed individuals has carried the weight of representation for a very large and diverse community. That also means many in our community haven’t yet had the chance to help build the kind of neighborhood we all envision.
“When a few carry the load, we survive; When many lift together, we thrive.”
OLCAA continues to be an effective Registered Community Organization (RCO), especially when it comes to zoning and development. But when it comes to community building, creating opportunities for connecting, and a shared vision, I believe they’re at capacity. That’s where Community Made comes in.
Get Connected!
That’s why I’m asking you to take one more step and sign up for the Community Made newsletter. You can sign up at the bottom of the page or click here.
Community Made is a growing grassroots organization formed by lifelong East Oak Lane residents. Our mission is to build a more connected, collaborative, and joyful neighborhood.
“We don’t need permission to come together, we just need each other.”
Our newsletter will help us organize beyond the boundaries of formal membership and invite all residents (new and old, renters and homeowners, business owners and community partners, youth and elders) to help shape what East Oak Lane becomes. Whether it's planning festivals, starting community projects, or supporting our schools, we believe there is room (and need) for more community led action.
So again, thank you. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for raising your voice. And thank you, in advance, for helping to build something bigger together.
