Proposed Temporary Street Closures Around 12th & Oak Lane: What You Need to Know

As neighbors and community volunteers, we’re working to organize a temporary, street closure to facilitate Oak Lane Day Festival activities on September 20th 2025—centered around the intersection of 12th Street and Oak Lane—and we’d love your support.
We’re asking residents on the following blocks to consider signing a petition that will help us move forward in obtaining a permit from the City of Philadelphia:
6600 block of N 12th Street
6700 block of N 12th Street
1100 block of Oak Lane
1200 block of Oak Lane

The Request
We’re proposing to temporarily block off half of each of these blocks to through-traffic. The goal is to create a safe and accessible zone that:
Closes the intersection of 12th and Oak Lane to traffic
Keeps half of each adjacent block open for local traffic only
Uses clear signage to direct and limit vehicle access
Allows residents to come and go as needed
This is a temporary closure, and specific times will be shared with all residents once finalized and approved by the city.
Why We Need Your Signature
The City requires signatures from residents who live on the affected blocks before issuing a permit for any temporary street closure. Signing the petition helps us demonstrate that this is a community-supported effort.
This effort is about improving safety, strengthening community ties, and creating more intentional, people-centered public space—even if only for a little while. We hope you'll join us in making it happen.
